Since 1962 when he joined AP - Arnett has gained access to stories with a remarkable mixture of smarts and drive. He went to Vietnam to cover the war and stayed through the fall of Saigon in 1975. In 1966, he won the Pulitzer Prize for international reporting for his Vietnam coverage. He Joined CNN in 1981. Early in 1990, he transferred to CNN's bureau in Jerusalem. He observed, studied and learned about the Mideast in depth, and was in the right place at the right time when the Gulf War began. He remained in Baghdad when other journalists left, and thus became the only western journalist to report from Iraq during the entire course of the war, and conducted the only interview with Saddam Hussein during the conflict.

CameraPlanet News is a producer of news, documentary, and long form
television for clients such as the BBC, CBC, CNN, MSNBC, A&E and National Geographic.

During Arnett's last trip, four weeks in Baghdad resulted in a documentary that will air in the coming weeks on MSNBC's National Geographic Explorer.

On this trip - the first assignment is a detailed observation and documentary report on the emotions, issues, and challenges of 'life on the brink'.

Says Arnett "I've been to Iraq 14 times in the past 10 years, but this will clearly be a journey unlike any other. The sense of an impending conflict, and the danger to both journalists and civilians cannot be underestimated."

"We've put in place state of the art technology, communications, and
survival materials so that our guys will be in the best position possible" said Ilario Pantano CPN's Director of News Operations. "We'll have both beta and DV gear, as well as laptop editing, and satellite store and forward video editing capacity. As the story develops, we'll be able to transition from long form documentary storytelling into a breaking news configuration."

Balancing the needs of documentary clients and breaking news coverage isn't easy. "There are few correspondents that have the virility, depth of knowledge, and stamina to do the kind of work that Peter Arnett has done for us in Afghanistan, Israel, and Iraq" said Executive Producer Steven Rosenbaum. "We value both his knowledge of the history of the region, and his ability operate on the ground in less than hospitable conditions"
